DummyLead · A secret shopper for your sales leads

Know what actually happens to your leads.

Think of it as a secret shopper for your leads. DummyLead drops a few seed leads into your pipeline alongside the real ones, each with its own email and phone number. We track every call, text, and email they get, so you can see who's actually following up, who's letting them go cold, and who's quietly reselling them.

Screenshot of the DummyLead dashboard: a seed lead named Jane Doe with a timeline of every inbound call, text, and email it received, including a verified first call, saved messages, and a flagged likely-spam call.

  • Times every first touch, to the second
  • Saves every call, text, and email word for word
  • Scores spam risk and SHAKEN/STIR on every call
The method

How it works, in four steps

You don’t change how you hand out leads. You just add one dummy lead and watch how it gets treated when no one knows it’s a test.

  1. Create a Dummy Lead

A real name, a working inbox, and a phone number that answers calls and texts. It looks like any other lead. Only you know it’s fake.

  2. You drop it in

Add it to a batch you bought, a partner hand-off, or your call rotation. It behaves like a real lead, so it gets treated like one.

  3. We catch every touch

Every call, text, and email is logged and timestamped: who reached out, how fast, how often. Calls recorded, messages saved word for word.

  4. You read the verdict

A clean timeline shows what really happened: worked, left to go cold, mishandled, or quietly passed to someone who shouldn’t have it.

Caller reputation

Find out how your calls really show up

Every call that reaches a dummy lead gets inspected the way the carrier does. You see the attestation grade it carried, the caller ID it showed, and whether it arrived flagged as spam, before weak pickup quietly costs you deals.

  • Attestation SHAKEN/STIR

When you call, your phone carrier can vouch that the number on the screen is really yours. That vote of confidence is graded A (fully trusted) down to C (not vouched for at all), and a low grade is what makes phones quietly bury your call. We show you the grade every call carried.

  • Caller ID CNAM

This is the name that pops up next to your number when you call. It can show your business name, just the bare digits, or nothing at all, and that alone often decides whether someone picks up. We show you exactly what the lead saw.

  • Spam label

Phone networks can tag a call “Spam Likely” or “Scam Likely” before it ever rings, just from how the number has been behaving. One tag and almost no one answers. We catch it the moment it happens to you.

Who it’s for

One dummy lead, four kinds of proof

The same dummy lead tells a very different story depending on whose hands it ends up in. Here is what the proof looks like.

Your lead A Acme Buyer AUTHORIZED ? Unknown number RESALE
Lead sellers & aggregators

Prove your buyers aren’t reselling

You sell exclusive leads but suspect buyers quietly pass them down the chain. Without proof, you lose pricing power and the relationship.

  • Seed a buyer’s feed and watch who actually makes contact
  • A second caller on an “exclusive” lead is resale, caught in the act
  • Timestamped evidence you can put in front of the buyer
15m 2h 14m elapsed 1 LATE ATTEMPT
Channel & referral partners

Verify partners actually work referrals

Partners promise fast, professional follow-up. Some sit on leads, some never call, some go off-script the moment you look away.

  • Real response time and attempt counts on seeded referrals
  • Professionalism and script adherence, observed first-hand
  • Hold partners to the response time they promised you
R Your rep Lead WORKED 6 of 6 attempts
In-house sales teams

Confirm reps are working leads right

You pay for leads and a floor to call them, but can’t see who cherry-picks the easy ones and who lets the rest rot.

  • Unbiased speed-to-lead and attempt counts across the floor
  • Tone and script adherence scored on real recorded calls
  • No one on the team knows which lead is the test

Catch spam dialing & weak attestation

Your outbound numbers get flagged as spam, tanking answer rates, and you have zero visibility into how they’re attested.

  • Every inbound call to a seed scored for spam risk
  • SHAKEN/STIR attestation grade for each calling number
  • Flag bad actors before they burn your deliverability
Questions

Common questions

The short version of what people ask before they run their first seed lead.

Is DummyLead like a secret shopper for my leads?
Yes. A secret shopper (or mystery shopper) poses as a normal customer to see how staff really behave. DummyLead does the same for your leads: it plants a decoy "seed" lead that looks and acts like a real one, then records exactly how it gets handled, so you see the truth instead of the version people show you when they know they are being watched.
How do I know if my "exclusive" leads are being resold?
Because each seed lead is exclusive to one recipient, anyone else who contacts it had to have been passed the record. If a seed you placed with a single buyer starts getting calls or texts from a second, unrelated number, that is resale, caught with a timestamp you can put in front of the seller.
What is a seed lead, and how is it different from a decoy or test lead?
They are all names for the same idea: a believable but fake lead you plant on purpose to monitor how it is treated. We call ours a seed lead or Dummy Lead; elsewhere you will see "decoy lead," "test lead," "honeypot lead," or "planted lead." Each one has a real name, a working inbox, and a live phone number, so it behaves like a genuine lead to everyone except you.
Can I check whether my sales reps actually follow up?
Yes. Drop a seed lead into your call rotation and DummyLead measures real speed-to-lead, how many attempts each rep makes, and whether they stay on script, all from recorded calls and saved messages. No one on the floor knows which lead is the test, so you get unbiased behavior instead of best behavior.
What is speed to contact, and can DummyLead measure it?
Speed to contact (also called speed-to-lead or lead response time) is the time between a lead arriving and the first real attempt to reach that person. DummyLead measures it from the prospect’s side: each seed lead timestamps the gap between landing in your flow and the first call, text, or email it receives, so you get your true speed to contact instead of the time a rep logged in the CRM.
Does it work for lead buyers and channel partners too?
It works for any hand-off you cannot see into: a lead buyer feed, a channel or referral partner, or a rep round-robin. You seed the flow, then hold the buyer or partner to the response time and exclusivity they promised, with evidence rather than a hunch.
Will the rep, partner, or buyer know which lead is the test?
No. That is the point. A seed lead is indistinguishable from a real one, so the people handling it cannot single it out or treat it differently. They behave exactly as they normally would, which is what makes the result trustworthy.
